Feeling thankful
Ah, the crisp smell of dying leaves, the squeaking of penny loafers, the feel of books being cracked open (those low-energy-consumption, platform-independent devices you can read in the bathtub), the awesome sight of middle-aged alumni trudging toward the stadium, seat-cushions in hand...
As Thanksgiving 2014 approaches, I feel thankful.
I finished a short film (The Bunny Man!) in collaboration with talented people, Shelter continues to find a home on screens here and abroad (Canada, Japan), Wild Book made it into a steampunk festival, and I was invited to curate a Weird Film Night at a winery!
What luck to work with such creative, cooperative people.
I have more ideas than time or money to pursue them, and am grateful for that kind of problem.
The masterful actor James Udom, who graced my play Scamoramaland in November 2013, has landed a part in an off-Broadway production of Tamburlaine. May he get the big fat career he deserves.
Finally, I have my health, for which I'm most grateful of all.
OK, back to work.

Bunny Man into sound post
The Bunny Man is finishing up in sound post-production, at Disher Music and Sound.
Thanks to the amazing power of EvilTone XL Pro 3.0, they are infusing the story with both menace and comedy. I'll never go to back to old EvilTone XL Pro!

Weird Film Fest a success
Weird Wine 'n' Film Fest went well - good turnout, enthusiastic crowd, and looks like we'll be doing this again.

I found some of these films at the 2014 Etheria night - an event for horror and other 'genre' films by women, at the Egyptian Theater in LA. Some creepy, some funny, some with pathos.

weird film set experiences
Recalling experiences - on my own sets and crewing on other peoples' films - it's been challenging to pick the weirdest experience, (that I can mention without getting in trouble) - but I think in the end it would have to be: picking out a rat in a reptile store to use on a film set, and waiting for the director to decide if he would settle for a brown rat because they were out of gray ones.

Etheria Film Night 2014 in Hollywood
In Los Angeles for the annual Etheria Film Night - a night of films by women filmmakers in horror, fantasy and science fiction.
It's a lot of fun - a lot of the filmmakers show up (there's a well-organized red carpet event) and it's well-attended. The format includes a feature film and a slate of shorts. I learned about Etheria in 2013 when my film "Shelter" was accepted to their tour, for which the theater event is the kick-off.
This year's feature film was Axelle Carolyn's "Soulmate", an uncommonly good supernatural thriller about a depressed woman trying to recover in a country retreat that turns out to be haunted. I'm glad I saw it on a large screen, it's visually gorgeous. It's a high-quality film in every respect, and I think it would do well in theatrical distribution.

"Shelter" screening at Calgary Horror Con
"Shelter" will be screening at Calgary Horror Con in August.
Canada and horror - two words that don't normally go together in my mind, but I am grateful!
This year, Horror Con welcomes Lloyd Kaufman, creator of such films as Toxic Avenger and Nuke 'Em High.

"Shelter" screening at Fright Night shorts showcase
Hooray, Shelter has been included in the March 29 shorts showcase at Fright Night Theatre.
Shelter is about a very, very bad break-up.
FrightNight is a year-round screening program for aficionados in Hamilton, Ontario, in the beauteous land of Canada. It's an honor to be included.
