James Udom, a gift to playwrights

If there's any justice in the world (and occasionally there is), James Udom will have a long and fulfilling acting career.
Recently I've been reminded of my good fortune in meeting him.
Four years on from his stunning portrayal (really, creation of) Freddy in a first outing of my play Scamoramaland (boy, was I lucky), James has gone on to work off-Broadway and then to Yale Drama School, from which he will graduate in 2018.
Film and theater world, take note of a very fine actor!

2018 update: James is in his third and final year at Yale Drama School and has received the Princess Grace Award!

2018 update deux: James was in town to play the lead role in the A.C.T. production of Suzan-Lori Parks's "Father Comes Home From the Wars". He's graduated from Yale and is making his mark!

Interview with Horror Happens Radio

Recently I had the pleasure of being interviewed once again by Jay Kay of Horror Happens Radio, which he and The Beast produce out of their bunker.
Jay Kay is a real scholar and supporter of genre media of all kinds. An interview with him feels like an effortless magic carpet ride, a conversation in a bar, something you don't want to end.
Check out his link on Sound Cloud (above) to get a sense of the sheer volume and breadth of his coverage (it ain't a plug for me, that will go up on his site eventually but not yet).

SF Olympians 2018

I've been commissioned to write a short play for the 2018 SF Olympians Festival.
My subject is Quirinus, protector of the Roman state and god of lawyers.
He wields a mighty suitcase and has a secret grudge against Orpheus.
A first draft feels coherent - there's something there - looking forward to joining the ranks of the Olympians in 2018!

"DONE" plays at Piano Fight

Just finished a run of my short piece "DONE" as part of May's Pint-Size Plays at Piano Fight, San Francisco's gem of theater.

The wonderful people who made it happen were:
Sophie Nelson -- The Customer
Ayelet Firstenberg - The "Security" Consultant
LeeAnn Dowd - The Director (actually!)

The read-throughs at the Berkeley Rep back office space (and fantastic costume shop!) were a pleasure, and the performances were each different and excellent.
